Settling in France on a long-term basis means taking integration courses (French language or civic education courses). This applies to foreign nationals who have obtained a residence permit after arriving in France or to the family of a foreign national who arrives through family reunification.

In this section, you will find information on integration in France and family reunification.

Necessary information

An important stage in your journey in France is the signing of the Republican Integration Contract (CIR) (contrat d’Intégration républicaine). This contract, signed with the French Office for Immigration and Integration (OFII), formalises your commitment to follow an integration programme.

It includes civic education courses to help you better understand the values and institutions of the French Republic, as well as language courses to improve your French skills. The CIR aims to facilitate your social and professional integration in France by providing you with the tools you need to better understand your new environment.

This integration programme is also followed by beneficiaries of family reunification, together with a medical examination. In this section, you will also find information on the procedure and steps to take following a positive family reunification decision.
