Appointments at the GUDA

As part of the asylum application process in France, the first reception structure for asylum seekers (SPADA) to which you report helps you arrange an appointment at the single-desk contact point for asylum seekers (GUDA). The appointment is divided into two parts.

During your appointment, you will first meet with an official from the Prefecture. They will:

Your fingerprints will be registered to check your identity and background prior to your arrival in France.

If the fingerprint check reveals that you have been identified in another EU Member State, you will be placed under the Dublin procedure. The Prefecture will then send a request to the Member State responsible for your asylum application.

Once your registration is complete, the official will inform you about the procedure under which your application will be examined. If you are to be examined in France, you will receive an OFPRA application file. It must be submitted to the French Office for the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons (OFPRA) within 21 days.

After your Prefecture appointment, you will be met by an OFII official who will:

  • Assess your needs and any potential signs of vulnerability, especially for minors, people with disabilities, the elderly, pregnant women, single parents, victims of human trafficking or people with serious illnesses;
  • Explain the material welcome conditions: asylum seeker's allowance (ADA) and possibly accommodation;
  • Propose a support contract (OPC)  if you are eligible;
  • Direct you to accommodation if necessary, or refer you to the SPADA for your address registration and administrative, legal, and social support;
  • Provide you with a card for receiving your asylum seeker allowance (ADA) payments.
