During your welcome appointment, the French Office for Immigration and Integration (OFII) will assess your French language skills through a language test. Depending on the results, OFII may offer you optional French language courses.

Who is concerned?
As part of the Republican Integration Process, you are eligible for French language training if OFII assesses your French level as being below A2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
If your level is above A2, you are exempt from the training.
You may decline the French courses offered by OFII. However, an A2-level language certification is mandatory to obtain a multi-year residence permit.
What training is offered?
Depending on the results of your French language assessment, OFII may offer one of the following options during your welcome appointment:
If you accept the French courses, they will be arranged according to your place of residence and your availability.
During your welcome appointment, the OFII officer will provide you with the address of the training centre, help you find the route to get there, and give you a summons for your first day of training.
The training will help you learn to read, write and speak French.
If you accept the training, attendance is mandatory. Any absence must be justified. You must inform the training provider by email or post within 48 hours at the latest.
If you are comfortable using digital tools and already have some basic knowledge of French, you may learn French through the Frello application.
You can progress to level A2 at your own pace, wherever and whenever you wish.

The application is free of charge. Registration is only possible through the link sent to you by OFII.
At the end of your welcome appointment, you will receive an email enabling you to create your account and download the application.
Discover the Frello application

Frello allows you to reach the A2 level at your own pace, wherever and whenever you choose.
Using the link provided by OFII, you can access Frello free of charge for one year after activating your account. After that period, your account will be automatically deleted.
Registration email
After your appointment with OFII, you will receive an email from Frello inviting you to create your account and download the application. The application is available on both the Android and Apple app stores. Click “Finish my registration”.

If you do not receive the registration email, check your spam folder and contact your OFII Territorial Office.
Creating your account
Choose the language that will be displayed in the application — your current language and the one with which you feel most comfortable. After entering your first and last name, create a password.

Your password must contain:
- At least 8 characters;
- One lowercase letter (for example: a);
- One uppercase letter (for example: A);
- One number (for example: 1).
Setting your goals
Indicate why you want to learn French. Select the level you wish to achieve: A2 Intermediate. State how much time you would like to spend learning each day.

What should you do after reaching level A2?
At the end of your training, you must take the A2 language certification exam.
This certification is mandatory to obtain a multi-year residence permit and serves as official proof of your French language proficiency.
You must take the language certification at an accredited examination centre. The list of approved centres is available on the France Éducation International website.
OFII covers the cost of your Frello licence or in-person French courses, but the cost of the certification exam is your responsibility.
