To submit your asylum application, you must go to a first reception structure for asylum seekers (SPADA).

What is a SPADA?

The first reception structures for asylum seekers (SPADA) are managed by associations commissioned by the French Office for Immigration and Integration (OFII).

Asylum seekers in France must go to a SPADA at several stages of the procedure. 
It provides information on procedures, helps with administrative formalities and issues a summons for the single-desk contact point for asylum seekers (GUDA).

Who has to go to a SPADA?

Anyone wishing to apply for asylum in France must first go to a SPADA to obtain the information and arrange for the appointment required to process their application.

Asylum seekers who are not accommodated in a centre for asylum seekers are supported by the SPADA throughout the procedure and regularly come to the centre.

During this first appointment, the SPADA will:

  • Inform you about the asylum procedure;
  • Arrange an appointment for you at the GUDA.

If you are in Île-de-France

Contact the OFII by calling 01 42 500 900 to arrange an appointment at a SPADA.

If you are outside Île-de-France

Go directly to the SPADA in the department where you live.

Once the GUDA has registered your asylum application, and if you are not accommodated in a designated centre, the SPADA will be responsible for:

  • Arranging for your residence;
  • Providing information and guidance regarding the asylum procedure. For example, completing the OFPRA file or obtaining legal aid from the CNDA;
  • Providing information and guidance on all matters relating to your social rights, such as covering your health expenses

The SPADA will help you at the end of your asylum application procedure.

If the French Office for the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons (OFPRA) or the CNDA issues a favourable final decision, the SPADA must:

  • Connect you with the OFII to sign the Republican Integration Contract (CIR) so you can attend language and civic training courses and access the AGIR programme for employment and housing;
  • Provide you with information and support to access your rights (welfare and family benefits, residence, social support for housing, vocational training);
  • Help you apply for a residence permit.

If the OFPRA or the CNDA issues an unfavourable decision, the SPADA must inform you about assisted voluntary return or about the reintegration programmes in your country of origin offered by the OFII.

If you are in Île-de-France

Contact the French Office of Immigration and Integration (OFII) by calling 01 42 500 900 to arrange an appointment at a SPADA.

If you are outside Île-de-France, find your SPADA's address below based on your department.
