What is regional guidance?
During the appointment at the single-desk contact point for asylum seekers (Guda), the Office of Immigration and Integration (Ofii) may offer material reception conditions, which include a financial allowance and, where applicable, accommodation.
Regional guidance is an offer of accommodation made to you when the region in which you are currently located is unable to accommodate you.
The OFII may then offer you accommodation in another region of France. You will be accommodated there for the duration of your asylum application.
Regional guidance enables the use of accommodation for asylum seekers throughout France, so that everyone can be accommodated in suitable conditions.
Who is concerned?
Asylum seekers without permanent accommodation, whether they are single or part of a family, may be referred to accommodation in the region.
Do you have a health problem? Medical centres, hospitals and specialist centres can provide care for you anywhere in France. If, however, you believe that you cannot be referred to another region, the OFII will ask you to provide supporting documents.
How does it work?
If the OFII offers you regional allocation, the officer will tell you your host region and the address of the reception centre you must go to. The OFII will give you a travel ticket to enable you to get there within five days.
You may refuse the regional allocation. If you refuse, the OFII will not offer you alternative accommodation and you will not receive the asylum seeker’s allowance.
You will also not receive the allowance if you accept your allocation but ultimately fail to report to the accommodation.
A train ticket will be provided to enable you to travel to the accommodation assigned by the OFII. This may be a temporary accomodation centre where you will stay whilst awaiting trasnfer to an asylum seeker centre appropriate to your case.
When you arrive at this temporary accomodation centre, you will be provided with accommodation and receive social and administrative support for a period of approximately one month.
You will then be referred to a facility suited to your situation, where you will remain until the end of the examination of your asylum application (by OFPRA or the CNDA).
Please note that you must remain in the centre for the entire duration of the examination of your asylum application. Otherwise, you risk losing your accommodation and your allowance.
If you have any questions during the process, you can contact the OFII regional office in your host region. You can find their contact details on the Help page, under the section ‘Contact details for your regional office’.
